How does your body feel when you’re anxious or stressed?

You may notice that you hold tension in your shoulders or back or head. It makes sense to us that when we are worried that we get a physical response of tightness and pain in our muscles.

This connection also works the other way around. Under prolonged stress our body can become chronically tight and tense sometimes without us even noticing the changes. When our body is tense, tight or in pain our mind recognises this and may respond with feelings of worry, stress or anxiety. We may even find that our mind begins to search for reasons why we are feeling stressed.

By practicing relaxing the muscles in our body we can help reduce feelings of worry and stress. In this podcast you can follow a simple exercise that helps teach the muscles to let go of tension. See what happens to your mind when your body becomes more relaxed.
